“Lately I have really been falling in love with wax crayons as an art tool. Unlike pastels, regular crayons are a lot more limiting to work with, and that’s exactly why I find them to be such an interesting medium. It’s very rewarding to try and push oneself to come up with new ways to create a certain color or textures with a new tool, and be able to succeed.

As can be seen, my art is very people-focused. There’s something that can be so captivating about studying another person’s face, to see all the little details that make us the people we are, and then try and reflect that person on the paper in the best way you can. So when I decided to try and work with crayons for the first time since elementary school, it felt natural to start with faces. One of my first pieces was that of an older man with a flat cap and mustache. Though the crayons at first felt a bit clunky, working with them I found myself going into a flow-state I had not felt in a long while, and that just pushed me to continue to make more art with them, and now they’ve become my favorite tool to work with.”
